THE STROKE & APPLIED NEUROSCIENCE CENTER
HARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTER | UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON MEDICINE

The SANS Center brings together patients with world-class physicians and scientists. Our multidisciplinary team generates incredible ideas out of the University of Washington that provide immediate impact on improving patients' lives through collaboration and innovation.

Three Stages of Care,
Three Stages of Research.

The SANS Center is committed to improving the lives of our patients before, during, and after hospitalization for stroke and other neurological conditions.

BEFORE

Develop early detection and diagnosis to understand the underlying cause of stroke and other neurological conditions through novel minimally-invasive techniques and machine learning.

DURING

Advance the treatment of stroke and other neurological conditions through computer simulations and medical device development.

AFTER

Improve quality-of-life for our patients after they leave the hospital through addressing the medical and mental health burden following stroke and other neurological conditions.

One Step Ahead.
Compelling Research,

Compelling Results.

Your Generous Support Accelerates
Meaningful Change in Patient Lives

Your generous support accelerates meaningful change in patient lives by fueling groundbreaking discoveries and innovative treatments. Every donation empowers our researchers to explore new ideas. advance clinical trials, and bring life-changing therapies closer to those who need them most. By investing in our research lab, you are directly contributing to a future where science transforms hope into healing- one breakthrough at a time.

The Founders

Dr. Louis Kim and Dr. Michael Levitt, neurosurgeons at the University of Washington School of Medicine, are both NIH-funded principal investigators in cerebrovascular research. They realized that traditional grant funding sources favor small, incremental gains over "home-run" ideas that can change the way we treat disease. To overcome this inherent problem, they established the Stroke & Applied NeuroScience Center at the University of Washington, whose audacious goal is to find cures for stroke and other disabling or life-threatening diseases.
